BASEBALL CLUJ - Our First Match vs. Targu Mures (Oct. 17)

We just realized that we posted so many photos on facebook and on the Baseball Cluj Facebook page - that we never posted to our blog !!!  Sorry - we are not the best at blogging on an ongoing basis, but we do try to do it at least once a month.

The baseball tournament was amazing!!!  The teams in Targu Mures were very hospitable.  The day started with our team loading onto a 21 passenger van (praising God for His provision for that) and three additional cars of parents, players and coaches.  Targu Mures is about a 2 hour drive from Cluj and is about 1/4 of our size (population about 100,000).

BASEBALL CLUJ

The first match was between our younger division and they played a terrific match.  The team from Targu Mures has practiced together for about 2 years and has indoor facilities for inclement weather.  Our team had practiced just about 3 months (with the whole of the group) and we lost the match by just one run.  We didnt lose, but gained much as we walked away with a great accomplishment for our first match ever (and adorable, 8 year old Razvi who pitched his first game ever!).

Razvi pitches his first game, after some "pointers" from Coach JeJe

Did you know that soccer nets are also great baseball backstops?

The second match later in the day faced cold, damp weather but our players met the task as they played a team of boys from Sighisoara (many who were much older, bigger) who have been practicing together 3 years, and who also enjoy an indoor facility in poor weather.  Our boys lost by just one run in this match as well but were so overjoyed at their accomplishment and determined to work even harder at practices - which they have done.

All want to continue to play through winter - snow or ice - doesnt matter to them.  It is joy to our hearts and we thank the Lord for what He is doing in Cluj through baseball !!!  p.s.  be sure to "like" us on Facebook at Baseball Cluj.

Nothing gets by this baseball gladiator

Did you know that you can easily convert a soccer stadium to
a baseball stadium?

"FIREBALL"

Coaches Austin (from Kona, HI) and Ovi.
Austin spent 6 weeks helping us train and then was umpire for this match.
