COMMUNITY PROJECTS - final project = Asphalt

COMMUNITY PROJECTS:

We are so thankful to the Lord for His favor in bringing to fruition our last 2 community projects!

The electrical was a BIG challenge (read below) and just 2 weeks ago the company returned to finish it up.

The asphalt has just begun - we are so excited !!!  Thank you Lord !

This was a Facebook post FEBRUARY 21. The work finished March 12th.

The past couple of weeks have been a good reminder of just how spoiled us modern missionaries are 😉. One of the community projects JeJe has been working on was an updated electrical system for our immediate area. The poles and wires, by his estimations as a licensed electrician, are at least 60+ years old. We have had many power outages over the past 5 years (not good in winter and not good for our electrical household items), and early on JeJe discovered that they had mixed copper and aluminum wires out on the power lines. He took on this project by talking with local authorities and the electrical company persistently.
We were very happy to see this project come to reality; however they subcontracted the job out and the guys who are working have made the past two weeks challenging.
For starters, Winter is not the best timing 🥶🥶🥶
Rather than shutting the power off at the specific location they are working (the houses are sectioned off), they shut off the entire street. No power from 9am to 5pm. Period. Which means NO HEAT in the middle of winter here in the mountains 🤦‍♀️
They leave for the day with wiring piled, exposed, hanging, and the poles in the pictures are how they are arranging the wiring on the poles. No OSHA over here 🤷‍♀️.
One day JeJe heard their trucks pull out for the day….but they forgot to turn the power back on for us and a few others. If JeJe had not insisted with the Gal at the power company that they send someone out immediately, we would have had no heat all night (house is already very cold by 5pm).
The man pictured up on the lift came out and got the power back on after about 30mins (he had to figure out what the subcontracting company had done 😉).
Hopefully the work will be finished by the end of this week 🙏
We found joy in the little things God has blessed us with. One being a travel, hand coffee grinder that a friend blessed us with on our last trip state side. Desperate moments (not having a button to push for that afternoon coffee) call for desperate measures: grind coffee beans, boil water, get out the French press ☕️☕️☕️

ASPHALT !!!  We live where there are dirt/river rock roads and there has not been proper drainage for when the rain comes pouring down – creating flooded streets and basements.  It can also prove very hazardous as we are about 10 houses from the Jiu River which has been known to flood during rainy seasons  This has been a long, long, long project, but we are happy to report that the work has begun to asphalt and get proper street drains put in.  You can see the current photos and we will send photos when the work is finished.  This was last on our “To Do” list of community projects and we have watched the Lord work through each project and get them to fruition.  May He be glorified and the community see His hand.

What a beautiful time we had celebrating International Women's Day (March 8).

Coleen & Elli hosted a group of women in our home for breakfast, fellowship, encouragement and Biblical teaching.  In addition, they were invited to other churches in Romania to participate in Women's Day events throughout the month.

The Lord has been opening doors for them within the Women's Ministry in other areas of Romania.

Be sure to subscribe to Elli's page "Poiema" which is social media platform for ministering to women here in Romania.  You can find it on Facebook or Instagram.  She works hard to do the translation in the subtitles for you.  Blessings and love in Jesus - what Joy it is to be Women of God!

THANK YOU JESUS !!!

Words cannot express the beautiful, joy-filled weekend we had with our friends at the children's orphanage of Casa Sanctuary.  There are 3 homes for the children, girls, boys and chidren under age 12. We wanted to connect even better by doing events special to each of the 3 groups and then a large group gathering on our last evening - for a Christmas devotional and pizza !

At each of the homes, we did hot chocolate, cookie decorating, crafts, games and each child received a personalized gift box from one of the members of our home church's college group.  It was truly amazing!!!   Our first night we made dinner for the girls, the next morning we did pancakes on a HUGE grill for the boys and little ones.

The kids were thrilled and even spent time writing "thank you" notes to the individuals who sent them gifts.  Those notes have already made it over to the US and the kids now have some forever friends via "pen pals".   Thank You Lord - you are so, so good!

Children's Center Christmas Outreach - a Job Well Done, Elli !

This years Christmas Outreach to the local Children's after school center was a very special time.  We thank the Lord for the open door here and the favor He has put on Elli in this ministry.  She puts together the activities, games/prizes, Bible activities, treats and more.  Both the children and staff are ministered too.  It was made even sweeter, when she returned a few weeks later for one of her regular times there and most of the children remembered the Bible verse:  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have life everlasting"  John 3:16
